Jewelry Care Tips
Metals:
The majority of our jewelry is made with either silver plated or gold plated findings (ear hooks, posts, backs, jump rings, etc..). Plated metals will tarnish over time.
Here are some tips for caring for plated jewelry:
Clean Regularly:
Use a damp cloth and a mild detergent dissolved in hot water to remove body oils and soil. Avoid abrasive cleaners and corrosive chemicals, which can damage the plating. Don't rub or brush the jewelry, as this can cause flaking and expose the metal underneath. After cleaning, let the jewelry dry naturally before storing.
Avoid Water:
Remove plated jewelry before swimming, showering, exercising, or washing your hands. Saltwater and chlorinated pool water can be harsh on metal, and sweat, moisture, soaps, and friction can cause the plating to wear away more quickly.
Store Properly:
Keep jewelry in a cool, dry place and store each piece separately in its own box to prevent tangling. Avoid contact with hard surfaces, which can cause scratches and bumps that damage the plating.
Remove before bed:
Tossing and turning can cause friction and tangles that damage the jewelry.
Avoid Chemicals:
Don't use chemicals or polishing cloths on plated jewelry as they can wear away the layer and cause it to tarnish quicker.
Apply perfume and moisturizer first:
Put on perfume and moisturizer before adding jewelry.
Wood
Wood earrings are stylish and beautiful but just like any other piece of jewelry, they require proper care to maintain their beauty over time.
Avoid Water
Wooden earrings are not waterproof. A little rain should not hurt them but excessive moisture can cause warping or cracking. Avoid wearing them in the shower or while swimming.
Store them properly
Store your wooden pieces in a cool, dry place. Avoid humid areas like the bathroom.
Avoid harsh chemicals
Harsh chemicals such as perfumes, hairspray, and cleaning products can cause the wood to discolor or deteriorate. Be sure to apply beauty products before putting on your earrings.
Clean them properly
Use a damp cloth and gently wipe them down. If your earrings are painted, be careful not to use oil as this can damage the paint. Use a damp cloth and mild soap if needed.
